Dentures Near You

When you hear the word ‘dentures,’ what do you think of? Chances are the image of an oversized pair of teeth that clickety-clacks comes to mind. But even though Hollywood frequently uses this as a comedic prop, dentures are much more than that.

Dentures are artificial teeth given to patients who are missing a full arch or all their teeth. They are made of acrylic and porcelain to blend in with your gums and look natural. This treatment is a reliable, long-term solution that will restore your smile and help you get back to enjoying all the things you love to do, like eating good meals and laughing with your friends.

Missing Teeth

Patients of all ages can be missing teeth, not just the elderly and this can be due to various reasons, such as:

  • Oral trauma
  • Sports accidents
  • Advanced gum disease
  • Aging/genetics

Of course, dentures aren’t for everyone. Dental implants and bridges may be suitable alternatives depending on your needs. Our dentist in Southeast Edmonton, Dr. Steed, can evaluate your smile and needs. Don’t be afraid to voice your opinions at any time.

The Process of Getting Dentures

  1. Consultation. A personal consultation is the first step in the process. Alongside discussing your hygiene habits, goals, and needs, Dr. Steed will identify whether partial or complete dentures are right for you.
  2. Impressions. Impressions of your teeth are taken. This information aids the dental technicians as they fabricate your dentures. They should be ready in about 1-2 weeks.
  3. Fitting. Together with Dr. Steed, you’ll have a ‘try-in’ appointment to see how the dentures feel. Adjustments can be made if necessary. We will also check that the look of your dentures meets your preferences.
  4. Care Instructions. Before you go home, we’ll give you specific instructions on how to care for your dentures. This includes regular cleaning between meals, soaking them overnight, and storing them in a safe, dry place. Bring your dentures with you to your biannual checkups so they can be assessed as well.

At Avalon Dental, we work hard to make sure that your dentures meet your expectations. Should your dentures become broken or lost, please let us know right away.
