What We Provide

  1. PAN

PAN stands for panoramic x-rays. These x-rays take 2D images of your oral cavity, including teeth and the jawbone. Since these images are comprehensive, dentists use them to assess the overall state of a patient’s mouth. Panoramic x-rays allow dentists to see the following:

  • The position of wisdom teeth
  • Tooth fractures
  • Cysts or abscesses
  • Tumors
  • Bone irregularities

A PAN x-ray is very useful for placing dental bridges, implants, and dentures. The machine rotates around your head once, and then sends the images to a computer.

  1. CBCT

Cone-beam computed tomography, or CBCT, is a unique piece of equipment that takes 3D pictures of a patient’s smile, bones, ears, neck, nose, and throat. Similar to panoramic x-rays, this machine circles your head to take up to 200 detailed images from multiple angles.

  1. CEREC

CEREC is the abbreviation for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. This machine allows dentists to create tooth-colored dental restorations and provide them to patients in just one day. Digital impressions of the tooth are taken to record its dimensions, then a computer delivers that information to the ceramic restoration machine.

The following structures can be made with CEREC:

  • Veneers
  • Crowns
  • Dental fillings
  • Inlays and onlays
  • Dental bridges
  • Dentures
  1. Intraoral Scanner

An intraoral scanner is another type of digital scanner. It also produces 3D pictures of teeth in seconds. This has become very common in dental practices since it allows dentists to fabricate customized restorations. The scanner is a handheld device that can be easily moved. Furthermore, the images taken are extremely precise.

  1. Laser Dentistry

At Avalon, our dentist in Edmonton, Dr. Steed, uses dental lasers to perform infant frenectomies. Some of the many benefits of using lasers in dental procedures include increased precision, minimal bleeding, and versatility. Alongside removing excess tissues, as is the case with a frenectomy, lasers can also remove canker sores, tumours, and bacteria.
