Teeth Whitening Near You
Whether you’re headed to a job interview, meeting someone new, or starting a new semester of classes, a dazzling smile can open so many doors. Patients of every age covet a white smile, and our team here at Avalon Dental can help you achieve this. We will ensure that your teeth appear natural and healthy and that you leave our clinic feeling completely satisfied with your results.
We encourage you to schedule a consultation with our dentist near you, Dr. Steed, if you’re eager to find out more about teeth whitening.

Factors That Contribute to Discolouration
It is not uncommon for our teeth to gradually appear dull as the years go by. This is because multiple factors can lead to discolouration, including, but not limited to:
- Genetics
- Aging
- Dark foods and drinks
- Tobacco
- Alcohol
- Infection and decay
Teeth whitening is a great solution to address this issue; however, it may not be suitable for everyone. Dental crowns or veneers may be more appropriate. Dr. Steed will tell you know more about these options when you visit.
What We Provide at Avalon Dental
At our local dental practice, we offer two effective methods to help patients lighten their smiles. They are outlined in further detail below.
1. In-Office Whitening
Professional or in-office whitening is highly recommended because the process is carried out in a clean, comfortable environment, and dentists are properly educated on handling bleaching agents. At Avalon, we will apply a hydrogen peroxide-based gel to your teeth and then use a special light to trigger the chemicals in the gel to remove stains. Depending on the extent of discolouration, this can take 30-90 minutes. You may also be asked to return for follow-up whitening sessions.
2. Take-Home Trays
If you’d prefer a more convenient method, we provide custom take-home whitening trays. Our dentist in Edmonton will take impressions of your smile so technicians can create trays that fit tightly over your teeth. You’ll be given some bleaching gel, too. At home, administer the gel in the trays, then slip them on. You must wear the trays for a specific time so the gel can scrub stains away. Be sure to follow all the instructions you’re given to ensure oral irritation does not occur.
Note: Brief tooth sensitivity following teeth whitening is normal and will go away on its own. If it does not, be sure to reach out to us so we can remedy this issue.
Patients who are pregnant are advised not to undergo teeth whitening.
How Long Does It Last?
Teeth whitening is not a permanent solution. Your results can last up to 3 months, after which you’ll need to have your smile touched up once more. Consuming less staining food and drinks, like coffee and wine, berries, and tomato sauces can help prolong your results.
Furthermore, everyone’s smile is different. The shade of white that looks most natural on your teeth will not match someone else’s. This is an important aspect to remember when you come in for treatment.
