Same-Day Dental Crowns Near You
One of the most versatile dental treatments is a dental crown. These tooth-sized caps are designed to blend in with your surrounding teeth and support an unhealthy tooth. If you prioritize your oral health, a crown can last many years before requiring replacement.
Our dentist near you, Dr. Steed, will gladly help you restore your smile. If a dental crown is something you’re interested in, call our local clinic to set up an initial consultation. We will examine your smile and let you know if this service is right for you.
Reasons to Get a Crown
You may be advised to acquire a dental crown for any of the following reasons:
- A cavity that’s too large for a routine filling
- Covering an implant
- Holding a dental bridge in place
- Protecting a tooth that’s had a root canal
- Covering a discoloured tooth
- Strengthening a cracked tooth
What are Crowns Made of?
As is the case with most modern dental restorations, dental crowns can be made from metals like silver amalgam and gold, and tooth-coloured materials such as porcelain or composite resin. Here at Avalon Dental, we are proud to provide the latter.
When you come in for your appointment, our dentist in Southeast Edmonton, Dr. Steed, will take note of your aesthetic preferences and smile needs. Tooth-coloured materials are quite durable and stain-resistant but won’t last forever. Eventually, you’ll need to have them replaced to keep your tooth strong.
Understanding Same-Day Crowns
Avalon Dental offers same-day dental crowns. As the name indicates, these are like ordinary crowns but can be placed on your tooth in a single appointment.
The first step involves removing any debris or decay and thoroughly cleaning the tooth. CEREC, a is computer-based system, is used to take digital impressions of your tooth. These images are translated into 3D images. Based on the information in the images, a customized dental crown is generated by carving into a ceramic block via a special milling machine.
When the restoration is ready, it is fastened onto your tooth with dental cement. Dr. Steed will make sure it fits and feels comfortable before polishing it. Then you’re free to go! During your regular dental exams, we will assess the condition of your crown. If any adjustments are needed, those will be done during the appointment.
You’ll be able to get back to your daily routine and enjoy all your favourite meals and snacks in no time. Avoiding crunchy foods like candies and ice, wearing a mouthguard, and not using your teeth to open things will prolong the lifespan of your crown.
